Tom has long been involved in using products that produce either more energy efficiency, long term durability, or better construction techniques that add to the comfort and livability of homes. Virtually, all of these techniques fall into the category of "Green Building". As a result much of the reputation that Tom has acquired in the 31 years of home building experience is attributable to the quality of construction that is synonymous with his name. Now that green building is en vogue these techniques are being asked for by home buyers.
Specifically, the products that are standard in Tom French homes are Truss Joist floor joists, prefabricated roof trusses, Tyvek House Wrap, Andersen Windows with Lo-E glass and clad exterior frames, fingerjoint studs, 50 year composition shingles, day-night programmable thermostats, durable exterior sidings such as Hardie siding for trim and soffits and fascia as well as siding, and energy efficient heat pumps to name a few. All of these products are used because they either enhance the structure of the building, reduce monthly operating costs, reduce long term maintenance costs, or add to the comfort and livability of the home.
In addition to the standard items, there are many other items that can be incorporated at the home owner's choice. These items include low VOC (volatile organic compounds) carpet and paint for those that have severe allergies and allergy reducing devices on the furnace, such as electronic air cleaners or Hepa filters. Going beyond this, for real energy efficiency, ground source heat pumps can drastically reduce monthly energy bills.
Beyond the building products for those who are starting with a new home site, Tom can help with the siting of the home on the lot and landscaping characteristics that can reduce the external loads on the home by strategically planning on how best to build the home.
All of these things contribute to the overall concept of green building. They are just the beginning, and the sky is the limit as to what you can do. Tom is happy to discuss all of these options with you. You may e-mail us to send a free brochure that further describes our green building philosophy.
